Hoops are one of the few earring styles that genuinely work across every age, every face shape, and every occasion — the key is knowing which size to reach for and how to style it. Here's the guide.
The Three Hoop Categories
Small Hoops (10–20mm): The Every Day
Small hoops sit close to the face and have the same effortless quality as studs — but with a little more presence. They're the hoop you wear to work, to the grocery store, to everywhere. They photograph well and never look overdone. Our Vienna Hoops fall in this category — dainty rectangular hoops that are endlessly versatile.
Medium Hoops (25–40mm): The Versatile Sweet Spot
Medium hoops are the most universally flattering size. Large enough to make a statement, small enough to wear comfortably all day. They work for casual looks and elevated ones equally. The Valentina Hoops — 18K gold filled braided hoops — are our medium-sized statement piece.
Statement Hoops (45mm+): The Occasion Hoop
Large hoops make an entrance. The Noel Hoops from OAK + EVE are our statement piece — bold, modern, and designed for the moments when you want your earrings to lead the look.
Which Hoop Size Works for Your Face Shape?
Round faces: Longer, oval-shaped hoops elongate — avoid very circular small hoops which echo the face shape. Medium-to-large work well.
Oval faces: The lucky ones — any hoop size works. Medium hoops are the classic choice.
Square faces: Round hoops soften angular jaw lines. Medium to large circular hoops are very flattering.
Heart-shaped faces: Small to medium hoops balance a wider forehead. Avoid very large hoops which can overwhelm.
Long faces: Wider, more circular hoops add width — avoid very long drop styles.
How to Style Hoops in 2026
The clean look: One pair of medium hoops, no other earrings, minimal necklace. Timeless.
The layered ear: Small huggie in the first hole, medium hoop in the second. Or small Vienna Hoops up top with a statement Noel Hoop lower.
With a bracelet stack: Large hoops + minimal wrist stack — let one area of the body do the talking.
