Ear Cuffs: How to Wear Them (No Piercing Required)

An ear cuff is one of the cleverest pieces of jewellery ever designed: all the visual impact of a cartilage piercing, without committing to one. If you've been curious but unsure how to wear one, or whether it will actually stay in place — this guide is for you.

What Is an Ear Cuff?

An ear cuff is a piece of jewellery that wraps around or clips onto the outer edge of the ear — no piercing required. Most ear cuffs sit on the helix (the curved outer rim of the ear), though some styles sit higher. They're held in place by the tension of the metal against the ear — when sized and positioned correctly, a good cuff stays put comfortably all day.

The Hilary Cuff

Hilary Baguette CZ Ear Cuff OAK + EVE – no piercing ear cuff

OAK + EVE's Hilary Cuff is an 18K gold filled ear cuff set with tiny baguette CZ crystals — delicate, sparkly, and surprisingly versatile. It catches light beautifully and sits unobtrusively on the helix. No piercing. No pain. Just the look of a curated ear without the commitment.

How to Put On an Ear Cuff

  1. Start with the cuff slightly more open than you think you need
  2. Slide it onto the outer helix of your ear from the front
  3. Gently squeeze the cuff toward the ear until it holds snugly without pinching
  4. Adjust position up or down until it looks right to you

A properly fitted cuff should feel like light pressure, not a clamp. If it feels tight, open it slightly. If it falls off, close it a fraction more.

How to Style an Ear Cuff

With a stud in the lobe: The most classic ear cuff pairing. A simple stud or huggie in the first lobe hole and the Hilary Cuff on the helix — minimal, curated, done.

With a hoop: Vienna Hoops or Valentina Hoops in the lobe + Hilary Cuff on the helix for a two-piece curated ear with no additional piercings needed.

Asymmetric styling: Wear the cuff on one ear only for a deliberately asymmetric look. Very 2026.

Which Ear?

There's no rule. Most people have a "dominant ear" they prefer for statement pieces. Try it on both and see which feels more natural to you.

Will It Fall Off?

A well-fitted cuff won't fall off during normal activity. We'd suggest removing it before sleeping and before any activity where your ears might take a knock. And keep a hand near it the first time you wear it while getting dressed — it can catch on clothing if you're not careful.
